This work begins with the question, 'As a child of a Chinese marriage immigrant, can I be welcomed in Korea?' Through the acts of sharing Chinese tea and requesting 'birthday wishes,' I explore the themes of existential hospitality, the subversion of hate, and the issues of social exclusion. In the scene where the 'cheap' image of 'Made in China' clashes with the status of Chinese tea consumed as high culture, I find myself in a dual position—craving hospitality and yearning for my birthday to be celebrated. This gap reveals the process by which a private narrative intersects with social hierarchies and cultural prejudices.
